Who Receives My Furniture Donation to Furniture Bank Go?

At Furniture Bank we like using our blog as a forum to answer questions we get from the community about donating furniture. Two questions we’ve recently encountered are:

  1. Who are the clients Furniture Bank supports?
  2. Can my furniture donation go to a specific client group?

Who are the clients Furniture Bank supports?

Furniture Bank is committed to offering a hand to the formerly homelesswomen and children escaping abusive situations, and newcomer families and refugees. In fact anyone in need of a fresh start. These are the clients we support. We work in partnership with over 85 social service agencies and shelters; these partner agencies play a critical role in finding and referring clients to us through our Client Services referral process. This allows us to ensure that individuals and families who recently secured housing and are in need of furniture can get what they need to live with dignity in the comfort of a furnished home.

Can my furniture donation go to a specific client group?

We know that some of our donors have strong affinities towards specific causes and would like to see their furniture donations matched up with a certain client group such as Syrian refugees or single parent households escaping an abusive relationship. However, everything on our showroom floor is available without discrimination for all our clients to choose from. Therefore we can’t guarantee that your furniture will go to certain type of client.

We hope it gives you peace of mind to know that all donated furniture we collect and makes its way onto our showroom floor will be selected by an individual and/or family who needs it. Whether it is a newcomer family or a refugee, someone transitioning out of homelessness or a single mother exiting an abusive relationship, your furniture donation helps ensure that all of our clients who come to Furniture Bank get the furniture and household items they need to live with dignity in the comfort of a furnished home.

“Good morning to everyone at Furniture Bank. Thank you for all that you do, it’s a relief and pleasure to be able to come to a place like this to furnish my apartment. I’ve come from the streets and lost everything from a terrible fire to thank you for giving me a second chance at having a beautifully furnished apartment. I hope your here for a very long time to help people like me in need.”
