Our OrganizationFurniture Bank was started in 1998 by Sister Anne Schenck, csj, who served as our first President and Executive Director. Sister Anne has a long history of helping others in need. Her idea for Furniture Bank evolved from previous work by the Sisters of St. Joseph at the Herron Place Refugee Centre. For many years, Sister Anne had been collecting furniture for refugees housed at Herron Place. When it closed, she recognized that there would still be people who needed help in re-establishing a home. So Sister Anne started Furniture Bank. In addition to Sister Anne, Furniture Bank operates with three full-time staff, a dozen part-time staff, and a large team of volunteers. We receive assistance from a team of over 50 volunteers who serve a total
of close to 12,000 hours each year.
