CHANTALChantal has volunteered for Furniture Bank for the past two weeks, after arriving in Toronto in March from Namibia, where she suffered violence and persecution for her sexual orientation. Her family aided her financially so that she could flee to safety and she has been assisted in her transition by the Salvation Army’s Cawthra Shelter. Her dream is to become an electrical engineer and she is exploring the process with local universities. She knows that she has a long road ahead but feels safe and encouraged by the people that she has met here in Toronto. Chantal says that she finds it amazing how warm and friendly everybody is at Furniture Bank and she hopes her experience here will help her in finding a customer service job so that she can save for her education. Chantal is always smiling as she assists our clients with their furniture selections.
