Single father not afraid to ask for a helping hand
Not all our clients come from Toronto itself. One such example is Glynn, a single father to two teenage boys from Brampton, who arrived at Furniture Bank on bicycle in the midst of a summer heat wave. Having just endured the 40 kilometre peddle from the suburbs, we were only too happy to assist Glynn in his efforts to reinsert some stability into his family dynamic.
Glynn was a former long distance truck driver who was forced to give up his occupation to become more available to his sons. In spite of his best efforts, the family hit a rough patch through a combination of circumstance and some bad luck with moves (many of the family belongings were destroyed when they were briefly stored outside, and eventually victimized by a torrential spring rainstorm). Arriving at Furniture Bank through the Peel Family Shelter, the family proved resilient and soon found themselves back on track, in part due to a new array of home furnishings from our collection.
Through it all, Glynn showed a considerable amount of dignity and compassion, and he is now on the road to a new career, training to work with heavy equipment and feeling valued by the support of his family and organizations such as Furniture Bank.
