TORONTO, Apr. 10, 2013- Furniture Bank announced today a $50,000 donation from RBC Foundation to fund Furniture Bank’s newly refined Leg Up Employment Program for at-risk youth and newcomers to Canada. The Leg Up Employment Program offers skill-building opportunities, on the job training and professional development in the areas of warehousing and customer service, with a future focus on furniture refurbishing.

“We are proud to make this commitment of $50,000 to the Furniture Bank,” said Justin Field, Branch Manager, Queensway & Kipling Branch, RBC Royal Bank. “We are confident that the Leg Up Employment program will help youth and new Canadians to develop job-readiness, job-hunting and financial literacy skills.”

Furniture Bank hosted its Open House on Wednesday, March 13, at its new and first permanent home at 25 Connell Court, Unit 1. Over 200 supporters, donors, and agency partners who were in attendance enjoyed guided tours of the space, food and drinks, a historical presentation of the organization’s evolution, and an unveiling of the
