Client Impact: Shaniece's Story

A Furniture Bank Impact Story

A volunteer story:

In Shaniece’s own words:

“I came to Furniture Bank because I was interested in helping clients in furnishing their new homes. I am a student from Seneca College in the Social Service Work Program. I migrated to Canada in 2010 and had to turn to the Furniture Bank for assistance. The service I received was superb and I am very happy to be completing my work placement here because I can assist families just how I was assisted.

My first day was very interesting as I learned about the history of Furniture Bank and the process clients go through in order to get their appointments to come in for their furniture. I assisted clients in choosing items for their apartments. At the end of the day I felt very positive because I knew I had helped the clients make a new start. I was excited to come back for my second day.

I have done client services, assisting clients in selecting their furniture and have also had the opportunity of working in the sorting room where I sort donations that we receive on a daily basis.

My time here has been a tremendous journey. If I could use two words to describe the Furniture Bank they would be: welcoming and helpful
