Yes — and here’s what you need to know.
When you donate your gently used furniture to Furniture Bank, you’re not just helping someone in need — you’re also making a charitable donation. And yes, that means you’ll receive a tax receipt based on the fair market value of the items you give.
What is fair market value?
Our tax receipt values are based on the fair market value of each item — basically, what similar gently used items are selling for in local resale markets. Our team evaluates your donation and assigns a value that reflects current, reasonable prices.
Want to know what your receipt might look like?
Once you’ve submitted your pickup request, our team can provide an estimated tax receipt value based on the list of items you’ve included. For example, a coffee table might have a tax receipt value of around $100, while a loveseat could be valued at $200. The more detailed your inventory list of items, the more accurate the estimated value we can provide. So, be sure to include as much information as possible when you book your pickup!
A few things to keep in mind:
Receipts are only provided for items that are in good, reusable condition.
We cannot issue receipts for items that are broken, unsafe, or excessively worn.
Be sure to include your full name and contact information when booking your pickup.
Donating to Furniture Bank is a great way to give your furniture a second life — and your generosity comes with a tax benefit, too.
