Furniture Bank runs on donated furniture — but donated furniture doesn’t always arrive on schedule. Families need beds in October. They need microwaves in February. They need their home to function from day one.

When gaps appear in our donated inventory — whether it’s a shortage of bed frames, small appliances for families setting up their first kitchen, or equipment for our own operations — Second Shop helps us fill them quickly and affordably, so no family waits longer than they have to.

A Different Kind of Partnership

Most of the partners you’ll find on this page donate furniture or funds directly to Furniture Bank. Second Shop’s partnership works differently — and it’s worth explaining, because it reflects something important about how we operate.

Furniture Bank is primarily powered by donated goods from individuals and corporations. But donations are unpredictable. Some months we receive an abundance of dining sets and sofas. Other months, we’re short on the small-but-essential items — the microwaves, the blenders, the vacuum cleaners, the bed frames — that make a house actually livable.

Rather than leave families without these items, Furniture Bank purchases them from Second Shop at accessible prices. This allows us to guarantee a baseline level of home completeness for every family we serve, regardless of what’s been donated in a given week.

It’s not a donation — it’s a supply relationship built around shared values and a shared goal: getting families into fully functioning homes as fast as possible.

Filling the Gaps, One Order at a Time

Since early 2025, Furniture Bank has placed four orders with Second Shop — each one addressing a specific inventory gap or operational need. Here’s how that partnership has unfolded.

December 31, 2025

Furniture Bank closed out 2025 with one more order from Second Shop, a mix of small appliances. For families moving into a new home in the dead of a Canadian winter, a working microwave or a countertop appliance isn’t a nice-to-have. It’s what makes dinner possible on night one. This order helped make sure that as the calendar turned, families weren’t starting the new year in a house that didn’t quite function yet.

October 17, 2025

One hundred and fifty twin bed frames. That’s what Furniture Bank purchased from Second Shop in October 2025 — going straight into our inventory as purchased stock. Bed frames are one of the most consistently requested items we receive, and donated supply doesn’t always keep pace with demand. This single order helped ensure that 150 families — many of them children — wouldn’t have to wait for a proper place to sleep.

February 25, 2025

Furniture Bank’s second order from Second Shop in early 2025 brought in over 100 household items across a wide range of categories — from large flat-screen televisions to vacuum cleaners, countertop dishwashers to ice cream makers. For families setting up a new home after months of crisis, having a working kitchen and a clean living space isn’t a luxury. It’s the foundation of stability.

January 28, 2025

This is where the Second Shop partnership began — and it started with a large one. More than 550 items across ten product categories arrived in a single order in January 2025: hundreds of air fryers and blenders, dozens of microwaves and coffee makers, multiple air conditioners, freezers, bar fridges, steam cleaners, and more. For the families who received these items, it meant kitchens that actually worked — and homes that felt, from the very first day, like somewhere they belonged.
