At Furniture Bank, we are excited to announce a significant milestone that will enhance our capacity to serve those experiencing furniture poverty across the GTA. With the incredible support of the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF), we have received two life-changing grants totalling $249,900. These funds are pivotal in furthering our mission, and we extend our heartfelt thanks to OTF for their unwavering support and belief in our cause.
Scaling up our partnership with IKEA Canada
The first grant, amounting to $99,900, is dedicated to strengthening our partnership with IKEA Canada. This collaboration has enabled us to collect and distribute much-needed home furnishings from all six GTA IKEA stores. Over the past year, this initiative alone has allowed us to re-home 7,802 donated items and aid 6,627 individuals and their families as they transition out of crisis.
Expanding our reach and impact
The second grant, worth $150,000, has empowered us to purchase two new trucks, each with a 1,000-cubic foot capacity. These trucks are more than just vehicles; they are essential tools that will help us transport donated furniture efficiently for the next decade. With the ability to hold up to 35 mattresses, these trucks ensure that women and children leaving shelters, individuals emerging from homelessness, and many other vulnerable groups have the furniture they need to turn their living spaces into true homes.
