Home Depot gives back to the community through Furniture Bank day of caring

The Impact of Donating Home Goods

On June 15th, the Home Depot team, led by Denise Ferreira, rolled up their sleeves for a day of compassion and collaboration. Unable to attend the Furniture Bank in person, they devised a creative solution to still make a meaningful contribution to their community. It was a day where corporate commitment met community spirit, embodying the ethos of Home Depot Canada.  The Home Depot HR & Communications Team built and created, furniture (15 pieces) and cleaning kits (50 boxes) collection from the event.

Making a Difference from Afar

The HR and Communications team at Home Depot Canada came together with an innovative approach. Their solution was simple yet effective – to provide home furnishings and cleaning supplies to those in need creating Cleaning Kits and assembling furnishing items that Furniture Bank had identified as in urgent need. This was an act that not only showcased their commitment to the community but also their ability to adapt and innovate in challenging times.

Supporting Furniture Bank’s Mission

Furniture Bank’s mission is to provide families with the essentials to make a house a home. On this day of caring, Home Depot Canada contributed significantly to this goal. Every item donated was a step towards creating a comfortable, safe space for a family in the community.

A Day of Caring, A Lasting Impact

The day may have ended, but the impact of their efforts continues to resonate. The generosity of Home Depot Canada’s team members has made a significant difference to families in need. Truly, the spirit of ‘doing more for the community’ was brought to life in this remarkable day of caring.

Home Depot’s objective was clear and its heart, big. The goal was to gather home furnishings and cleaning supplies for the Furniture Bank. With this act, they aimed to provide families in the community with much-needed items to make their houses feel more like homes.

“It was an amazing day of giving back for our team, they loved building the furniture and packing up the cleaning kits!   Thank you for the work you do in our community!”

A Collaboration for Change

This partnership between Home Depot and Furniture Bank is more than just a day of service. It’s a gesture of solidarity, a commitment to support those struggling within their community. And most importantly, it’s a testament to what can be achieved when businesses and charities join forces. Furniture Bank and Home Depot teams have been collaborating for years helping turning empty housing into furnished homes through the provision of furnishing and home goods.

Living the values found in the Home Depot Foundation

The Home Depot Canada Foundation is redoubling its efforts to prevent youth homelessness through targeted investments in three key areas: expanding stable housing options for young people, integrating comprehensive wraparound community support services, and increasing employment readiness for youth. By tackling the root causes of homelessness in these areas, the foundation is committed to creating sustainable, long-term change and positive outcomes for at-risk communities all across Canada.

About Furniture Bank's Corporate Experience Program

Furniture Bank’s corporate volunteer program works by partnering with companies to provide volunteer opportunities for their employees. These volunteers help with various tasks such as sorting and organizing donated furniture, cleaning and repairing furniture, and assisting with deliveries to families in need. By participating in the program, companies are able to give back to their community while also promoting team building and employee engagement. The program also offers opportunities for companies to sponsor specific projects or events, such as providing furniture for a family transitioning out of homelessness or supporting a community-wide furniture drive. These sponsorships can be a great way for companies to make a significant impact in their community and demonstrate their commitment to social responsibility. In addition to the benefits for the community and the company, the corporate volunteer program can also benefit the volunteers themselves. By participating in meaningful volunteer work, employees can develop new skills, build relationships with colleagues, and gain a sense of fulfillment and purpose.
