Individual volunteering

If you are a passionate and hands-on person who wants to contribute to your community and help end furniture poverty, then volunteering for the Furniture Bank in Toronto may be for you.
Your time can make a difference. Join our team of volunteers.

As a showroom guide volunteer, you will:

  • Greet clients and learn more about what they need for their homes and families
  • Accompany clients around the showroom and help them with any furniture selections, using an iPad to track selected items and cost
  • Pack, unpack, and sort various donated household items
  • Provide general information and answer questions about the Furniture Bank
  • Work alongside other volunteers and visitors, and support with basic administrative tasks

Is this you?

  • Willing to commit to volunteering once a week for 4 hours, over a 6-month period. Shifts are scheduled from Monday to Friday from 8:30am – 12:30pm
  • Be at least 18 years old and fluent in English
  • Comfortable with using technology and have access to an email
  • Able to be standing/walking for a 4-hour shift on a concrete floor, and pack household items
  • Comfortable working with people who do not speak English as their primary language
  • Understand and knowledge of diverse cultures and challenges of vulnerable populations (including formerly homeless, those leaving shelters, newcomers to Canada, refugees, seniors, LGBTQ, etc.)
