Discover How Donating Your Old Mattress Gives It New Worth.
No one likes kicking furniture to the curb, especially old mattresses. Did you know that the average life span of a mattress is 8-10 years? Chances are that old mattress you’re getting rid of still has some life left in it, and we want to help you redistribute it to a family in need of a good night’s sleep.
We understand that it’s difficult to get rid of second hand mattresses. Your local Salvation Army and Goodwill cannot accept it, no one on Craigslist or Kijiji wants to buy it, and your family and friends don’t have any use for a second-hand mattress at the time.
We get it!
However, There is a better way. When you donate your old mattress to Furniture Bank, we promise that it will get to a family or individual in need.
LRT: I’ve heard workers, family, and friends say that donating beds is impossible/ no one will take them. @Furniture_Bank will!

A Mattress is the most needed item for Furniture Bank clients year round. In our case, clients who receive mattresses are often transitioning out of homelessness, refugees from war-torn countries and newcomer families with young children. What these folks all have in common is: they have housing, but are faced with the harsh reality that their “home” is empty or severely under-furnished without mattresses to sleep on.
People ask all the time: “what do you do to ensure mattresses are clean and bed-bug free?”
Here’s the process of mattress due diligence at Furniture Bank in a nutshell.
- A Driver assesses the mattress when they come to pick it up to see if it’s still usable
- A dedicated staff member steam cleans the mattress as soon as it comes off the truck
- A certified K9 bed bug inspection Dog (his name’s Radar) from Purity Pest Control inspects our inventory once a month to check for bed bugs
Your old mattress can REALLY make a difference in a person’s life. Not only does it provide a good night’s sleep that everybody needs and deserves, it’s a symbol of security and stability for families and individuals establishing their home.
This info-graphic shows the social impact that donated mattresses had in 2013:
